How to choose a candle scent: a guide to Vayu’s colour–scent pairings

Blue sculptural Bubble Candle on a wooden stand

Choosing a scented candle online is easier when you start with fragrance notes you already enjoy. Think about familiar smells—vanilla, citrus peel, herbs, flowers or warm woods—then compare those preferences with the product’s scent profile.

At Vayu, the regular Bubble Candle and the Romance Candle each have colour variants with their own fixed scents. Selecting a different colour changes the scent profile as well as the photo. Colour and fragrance are not separate mix-and-match options.

Use the notes as a guide

Our scent profiles list top, middle and base notes. These describe the fragrance composition and give you a vocabulary for comparing candles. They are not measurements of fragrance strength, room coverage or burn time.

Look across all three groups. A candle that includes citrus can also have a sweet or woody character in its listed notes. The comparisons below are based on those notes; individual scent impressions can differ.

For sweet vanilla notes: Bubble Blue

Bubble Blue lists light cream, powder and sweet milk at the top, followed by pure vanilla bean and warm caramel. Warm amber, sheer musk and brown sugar complete the profile. Of the regular Bubble options, this is the clearest starting point for someone drawn to vanilla and dessert-like notes.

For herbal and lavender notes: Bubble Purple

Bubble Purple combines fresh eucalyptus and bergamot with lavender buds, rosemary and violet. Its base notes are tonka bean, soft musk and cedarwood. Compare this option when herbs and lavender appeal to you more than the cream-and-caramel notes of Blue.

For jasmine, saffron and amber notes: Bubble Dual Tone or Romance Red

Bubble Dual Tone and Romance Red share the same listed scent profile: luminous jasmine and juicy orange; exotic saffron and creamy praline; glowing amber, oakmoss and salty seaweed.

If that combination sounds appealing, choose between their shapes. Dual Tone has pink and white rounded bubbles. Romance Red has roses cascading down a fluted pillar. Matching note lists do not establish identical fragrance strength or burn performance across different candle shapes.

For cedar, spice and warm amber notes: Romance White

Romance White lists bitter orange, coriander and Virginia cedar, followed by saffron, hot clove and patchouli leaves. Warm amber, benzoin, cinnamon and oakmoss make up the base. Its white colour does not mean it has the same fragrance as the white portion of Bubble Dual Tone.

A simple way to make your choice

  1. Pick one or two notes you already enjoy.
  2. Read the full scent profile rather than choosing by colour alone.
  3. Select the exact colour on the product page and check the updated photo and notes.
  4. If buying a gift, ask about the recipient’s fragrance preferences when possible.

Bubble Small is a separate product with its own scent profile. It is not a smaller size option for every regular Bubble colour.
